A car is composed of many different working parts. When it comes to vehicle maintenance, you shouldn't wait to have your vehicle serviced. Prolonging maintenance on your vehicle results in expensive repairs. Here's what you need to know about ball joints and their function.

What Are Ball Joints?

Ball joints are circular bearings that are connected to the control arms of the steering knuckles. almost every vehicle has ball joints. These joints are made of steel and consist of a bearing stud and socket that is enclosed in a casing.

What Are the Functions of Ball Joints?

Ball joints are an essential component of your vehicle. these joints:

Support the weight of your vehicle: some vehicles have two ball joints while other vehicles have four. Vehicles that have two ball joints have two joints that are connected to each front wheel. Vehicles that have two ball joints have an upper and lower ball joint. In vehicles that have only two ball joints, the entire weight of the vehicle is placed on the lower ball joint.

Pivot vehicle wheels: when you move your vehicle's steering wheel, the ball joints rotate to move the tires to the left or right. To ensure the ball joints continue to work properly, you need to keep friction at a minimum and grease the ball joints regularly.

Indicate wear: worn ball joints can be dangerous because you could lose control of your vehicle if the joint fails. When a ball joint becomes worn, the ball and socket don't fit tightly together.

What Are the Different Symptoms of Worn Ball Joints

Symptoms of worn, bad, or failing ball joints include:

Clunking noises from the vehicle's front suspension

Excessive vibrating from the front of the vehicle

Uneven wear on the front tires

Steering wheel wandering to the left or right
